The North East Top 5 Splashes of 2022!

Happy New Year, it's been a while since my last article and with the New Year I thought what better excuse to kick the blog off again.

I thought I'd have a little bit of fun with this one and get the rest of the community involved with the article. I don't give too much of a mention to my local MCP community in North East England, so I got them to help me out with the content for this article.

I asked each person from my local store to give me 1 nomination for their favourite or best splash of 2022 and a brief overview of why. I then put these nominations out to the wider community, and they could vote on their favourite from the list of nominations which would give us a ranking.

Now, before I go any further, this is just for a bit of fun and "best" or "top" is extremely subjective and cant really be accurately measured and everyone's opinion will differ. There were 13 characters that were nominated in total, which is a bit too many to highlight individually, so we'll go over the top 5 below.

5. Bullseye - Nominated by Thomas Carrott (5% of the vote)

"I don't think any affiliation doesn't like cheap splash damage from a character perfectly happy to sit on a back secure for two threat"

Bullseye squeezes in to our top five taking 5% of the overall vote. Since the character update, he's shot from virtual non existence to being a hugely popular 2 threat character especially for those attrition teams looking for a bit of damage output from their 2 threat choice. As Thomas mentioned he's a fantastic back point sitter that's capable of slotting into any affiliation.

4. Ghost Spider - Nominated by Ian Marley (7% of the vote)

"She has utility on all of her attacks with average defences and a long move. This makes her able to cause damage with a spike on an attrition based leadership and makes her really mobile whilst also having the ability to move friendly models to safety and options to displace enemy characters. She never needs much help to do what she wants to do."

Ghost Spider has been a hugely popular splash for a good while now and I think the crisis changes have only increased her stock value. She synergises particularly well with extract/crisis focused teams with her long move and Lifesaver and access to displacement. I am shocked she only got 7% of the vote though, I expected her to be a little bit more popular but it's still enough for her to take 4th place.

3. Lizard - Nominated by Phil Lowther (15% of the vote)

"Lizard is a low threat option who can take a beating, has great movement and is versatile in any affiliation he's splashed in"

One of my most splashed characters probably ever, I'm really glad Lizard made it into the top 5 because he's excellent no matter where he's played. He's got access to great movement, displacement, damage reduction and X-Ceptional healing. His damage output is lacking slightly but your bringing him into your squad to sponge damage which will make him continue to be a popular splash.

2. Doctor Voodoo - Nominated by Anth Poole (16% of the vote)

"He wins you games no matter what affiliation you play him in and he's super efficient"

Voodoo is a character with a reputation, and I'm not surprised to see him in second place. I think his stocks may have gone down slightly since the crisis update as he was super good on single extract crisis which have now been removed from the game. I still think we'll be seeing him splashed though through 2023 as he still has lot to offer in damage output.

1. Toad - Nominated by Will Spencer (35% of the vote)

"Toad is universally useful. He has access to a push on his builder, an incinerate on his spender, he's excellent at the extract game and also has great movement. He has something to offer every affiliation whilst only being a 2 threat character"

Coming in at a whopping 35% of the vote, Toad is our number 1 splash of 2022. I don't think I can have too many complaints with this one, he's a character we've seen a lot of in 2022 and offers an extreme amount of versatility for such little threat value. He was everywhere last year, and I don't see that changing in 2023.

A huge thank you to everyone that either nominated a character or participated in the vote, there were over 100 people that participated in the voting stage, which was more than anticipated. I've really enjoyed involving the community with this one, and I'll definitely be looking to do this in the future.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this, and stay tuned for more up and coming articles soon as we've got some new characters to review for our Brotherhood Character Deep Dive Series!
