Welcome to the fourth article of the Brotherhood Character Deep Dive series. A series where we take a deep dive into the affiliated Brotherhood characters. This week we're taking a look at one of the fastest characters currently in the game - Quicksilver.
Pietro can move and think at unfathomable speeds, moving faster than the speed of thought. Quicksilver’s incredible ability makes him one of the fastest mutants alive but has condemned him to live in a world of slow-moving statues incapable of matching his pace. Arrogant to a fault, Quicksilver will stop at nothing to prove himself a worthy successor of his father.
Character Card
As with all the other Deep Dive articles we'll start by looking at Quicksilvers character card. Quicksilver is another character who's card does not change between his healthy and injured sides. He has a health pool of 5, 3/3/3 defences across the board which is fairly standard for a 3 threat character. Quicksilver also has a long move and is size 2.
Supersonic Strike is Quicksilver's builder. This is a range 3, 4 dice physical attack with a couple of different triggers. The first of these is Dash which triggers on a crit and a shield which allows Quicksilver to short advance after the attack is resolved. The second trigger on the attack is Velocity - this one triggers on a hit and a wild and allows Quicksilver to make another Supersonic Strike attack onto a different target once the attack is resolved. A big note to make on both of these - the triggers do not state that they cant be triggered again in the next attack - so should Velocity trigger and you get another attack both of these can keep triggering on each attack - just make sure with Velocity you have a valid target that hasn't been targeted with the attack previously.
Quicksilvers spender is Cyclonic Vortex for 2 power. This is a range 3, 6 dice physical attack and once the attack is resolved he may advance medium. Note the "may" in the description of the attack meaning this an optional move.
Moving on to his superpowers, and the first of these is Speedster. For 2 power, if he isn't holding an objective token he can advance long.
Cant Catch Me can be used when Quicksilver is targeted by an attack. For 3 power he can advance short - if he is then out of the attacking characters range the attack ends and the attacking character gets the action back.
Supersonic Reflexes allows Quicksilver to re-roll two of his defence dice if he is defending against physical or energy attacks or if he is making a dodge roll. This superpower combined with Can't Catch Me can make him quite difficult to take off the board.
Quicksilver also has the benefit of Wallcrawler.
Tactics Cards
The below tactics cards are included in Quicksilvers box. Just a note here, there are other cards included in this box that wont be listed as I'll only be covering the cards that can be played for Quicksilver.
The first of the two tactic cards for Quicksilver is Can I Borrow That? After an attack made by Quicksilver, if the attack does damage and the character is holding an asset token he can spend 2 power and move the token from the enemy character onto himself. Note, this only works for asset objective tokens, so Cubes, Hammers, Alien Ship etc. This does not work on civilian crisis such as Spider Infected, Skrulls etc. If your playing a lot of asset based extracts in your roster, then this is probably a must include to run alongside Quicksilver.
The final card that can be used with Quicksilver that's included in his box is Difficult to Please. If Scarlet Witch has dazed or KO'd an enemy character and Quicksilver has interacted with or picked an objective token both in the same round, then you can remove an activated token from Magneto. This card sounds great on paper, but there's a lot of situational things that need to happen all in the same round in order to pull this off that are just unlikely to happen. It's probably one that I would personally leave at home.
Where Does He Fit In The Affiliation?
Quicksilvers insane movement gives him a place in both Mystique and Magneto Brotherhood. I don't think he's a staple in either team but he gives you some flexibility if you need a character who can get across the board quickly. He's a perfectly viable objective runner under Magneto and he's another long mover to run along Mystique. Quicksilver is probably at his best on C shape secures. If he's not holding an extract, for 5 power he can go from one far secure to the other and interact with every one on the way, he's one of a select few characters in the game at the time of writing that can do this. As mentioned previously in the article, he's also a really solid choice if your running a lot of asset based extracts to make use of his Can I Borrow That? tactics card. An added bonus to Quicksilver is his defensive tech. Currently, out of all the 3 threats currently affiliated with Brotherhood, he's probably got the most staying power, so if your looking for a 3 threat affiliated character with a little bit of survivability then he's definitely worth thinking about.
